Information on this Website
Standards compliance
At the time of publication all pages on this site
- validate as HTML 4.01 Transitional
- use valid CSS
- satisfy Level A Conformance to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 whilst most pages satisfy Level AA
Other Design principles
- All pages use flexible ("liquid") CSS structure so pages can be optimally displayed in various window sizes and screen resolutions without loss of information
- Page formatting is done with CSS not tables to ensure that the structure of the information is preserved and accessible to non-visual browsing
- All pages adopt media-dependent CSS, so the information that makes sense on screen only is omitted from the printed version of the page. [To see the printed output of each page select File > Print Preview on your browser]
- The website uses relative font-sizes, so text can be resized using the text size options available in visual browsers. [To resize the text in Mozilla/Firefox select: View > Text Size > Increase / Decrease. To resize the text in Internet Explorer select: View > Text Size]
- All pages are fully functional even if Javascript is disabled
- The website is designed to convey the same information under many common browsers and operating system. However we recommend using browsers which implement fully the W3C standards, like Mozilla Firefox
.
