• Maths-based solution will boost mining profits - Professor Peter Duck and Dr Paul Johnson are working with colleagues from MBS to develop novel means of helping mining companies accurately calculate the value of their reserves (December 2009).

• Gordon Brown issues an apology for the treatment of Alan Turing. Interviews with Professor Peter Duck on BBC National News and ITV Granada Reports on Friday 11th September 2009. This coverage follows press interviews with Professor Bill Lionheart about the petition which led to the apology.

• Professor John Dold interviewed on the ITV Tonight programme called Australian Inferno, (broadcast on 13th February 2009) investigating the causes of the fires sweeping Southern Australia.

• UK Mathematicians have a MAGICal party, A new interactive mathematics teaching network has been officially launched at The School of Mathematics - and could provide a blueprint for the delivery of better postgraduate education throughout the UK. Reported in Mathematics Today
• Composer plays musical homage to Alan Turing, the father of computer science, The clicks, clacks, taps, whirs, buzzes and humming sounds made by the humble PC have been transformed into a musical soundscape - in homage to the world renowned mathematician, Alan Turing.
• Maths alumnus (1971) and former Aviva boss honoured by the University of Manchester. Richard Harvey, the Former CEO of insurance giant AVIVA and Mathematics graduate has been awarded The University of Manchester’s Outstanding Alumnus Award for 2008, also available on the Manchester Evening News website.
• The Appliance of Science - BBC Northwest Tonight feature (July 2008) on Professor Brian Cox talking to Professor John Dold about how maths is helping to fight forest fires.
• Bobby Charlton Campaigns Against Landmines. The Telegraph newspaper covers the work involving Professor Bill Lionheart and other colleagues within the University of Manchester with Rapiscan and Sir Bobby Charlton to detect and eradicate landmines.
